Naming and Brand Identity

For BrickWest Brewing Company, I developed a line of product names around the theme of
dichotomies and contradictions.
These labels include Reluctant Hero Porter,
Welcome Heartache IPA,
Patient Gambler Pale Ale,
and many others.

As we built our market research practices
around the principles of behavioral economics
and decision science, I named our new firm
Behavioral Science Lab.
I also named our trademarked methodologies,
MindGuide and BrandEmbrace.

The University of Texas at Austin needed
its new MFA in Creative Writing program
to compete with the Iowa Writers' Workshop
and stand out from its own legendary
Michener Center. When the director called
on me for help, we developed and launched

The New Writers Project. Within weeks,
enrollment surpassed projections by 400%.

When the Conspirare Youth Choir
ventured out on its own this year, the artistic director called on me for a new name and brand story. Introducing

illumine, a company of young voices.

After I wrote the brand strategy and creative platform for Dark Horse Brewing, the irreverent and irrepressible craft beer company asked me to name its new variety pack. My solution was obvious:
Beloved Outlaws.

Our agency wanted an engaging platform
for our internal classes and programs.
I thought "Sanders\Wingo University" was
too obvious. I'd also heard about our founder's mantra during the 80's: "Your job is to make things happen right now." Voila.

I named our annual marketing conference,
The Why Initiative. The event featured panelists
such as "Two Guys on Your Head" hosts
Dr. Art Markman and Dr. Bob Duke, user experience
guru Katherine Hlavac, and
The Business of Choice
author Matthew Willcox.
